When Russ and I were dating 34 years ago we hiked Desolation Trail up one of the canyons in Utah. Even though there were many years we couldn't do much hiking, it began a love of the mountains and the beauty and solitude they provide. Once again we are in "training" for another hike we will take the end of August. I have to admit they seem to get harder and harder each year to get in shape!! Maybe because every year I'm another year older. I keep telling Russ, "this is the last BIG hike," but somehow we always have another one in the works. I guess it keeps me going and I'm grateful for how patient Russ is when I get tired and whiney on our hikes. In the end I'm always glad we did them and enjoy the beauties God has created for us to enjoy.
Here's just a few of our hikes!

We usually hike in the Olympic Mts. but this past week we hiked in the Cascades. The trail started out quite flat and nice, but got very steep and rocky. These were called, Rampart Lakes. The good news is my quads aren't dying for three days after each hike now.
I always love it when I get past this point.
We will leave the end of Aug. to hike around Mont Blanc. Its 105 miles and goes through Switzerland, France and Italy and you do it in a week. We are going with our good friends the Parkins who hiked to Everest Base Camp with us. The BEST part is going with my sweetie:)
You guys ARE crazy for doing all these hikes, but I'm glad you always have fun and make good memories! (Plus we get to see the fun pictures after). Keep up the good work, love you guys!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a worthy hobby. I really admire this! Thanks for sharing your pictures and memories. How do you still look so good after doing hikes like that? My "summit" pictures always make me look like I am dying? Thank goodness FL is so flat and at sea level. Can't wait to see you Europe hike adventures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! You guys are so motivated and that's nice that you both can enjoy hiking together. Love you!

ReplyDeleteYou two picked a great hobby. I hope your joints allow you to do many more.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't include Kilimanjaro. Loved seeing all of these. Glad we got to take one with you too -- though it was plenty strenuous enough for us :)
ReplyDeleteAlso -- loved that first picture. You look so young in it. Not nearly old enough to marry:)
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome hobby! The first picture is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love hiking as well. Great pictures.
